Beautiful, functional, scalable.
We are not just design consultants, but also technicians. Both visionary artists and skilled creators, we can produce design concepts, renderings, models, plans, furniture prototypes and custom pieces. Working with custom fabricators, we enforce uncompromising production standards to meet your specific needs and suit your specific environment.
We are overseers. When required on complex and larger projects, we work with architects, engineers and contractors. This scalable approach allows us to provide the level of direction and project management that suits each individual venture. Our specialty is our process: we work collaboratively with clients to design and execute striking spaces that don’t overpower their occupants but rather serve them, whether the goal is a bustling front of house at a restaurant or an oasis of calm at home.
It starts with you. An abstraction that came from your dreams. A picture in a magazine. An admired style or artisan. A colour. An emotion. Whatever you bring to us is the jumping-off point, so every project is as distinct as each client.

Founder Marx Kruis worked as a self-employed carpenter and general contractor for several years before starting Kruisbuilt in 2013. With a desire to offer a fresh approach to a wide variety of design and custom projects, his focus has shifted from remodeling services to design consultation. He has also developed a cabinetry system that is currently being beta tested.
Marx earned his BFA from Concordia University in 2000 where he concentrated on sculpture, video and installation art. As a museum and gallery technician, he has worked at several institutions in Toronto including the MOCCA, Powerplant, and the AGO; as a preparator at the ROM, he designed and built custom display mounts for a variety of artifacts.
Marco Cheuk is passionate about functional design, pure form for function, and believes the use of an object is inherent in its beauty. Shaker style furniture, Scandinavian and classic mid-century modern pieces are among his favourite design aesthetics.
Marco is formally trained in the arts of printmaking, sculpture and graphic design. He has studied at Humber College and obtained his BFA at OCAD University in 2004. Marco has more than 10 years’ experience as a museum gallery technician and has also produced architectural models. His technical approach complements the production and installation of Kruisbuilt projects.
Sebastian Butt is the lead studio technician at Kruisbuilt, developing custom finishes, prototypes and custom pieces while maintaining an active art studio in Toronto.
Sebastion’s education included zoology, marine biology and studio studies at the University of Guelph where he graduated with BFA with honours in 2008. He continued his studies in ceramics and woodworking at The Banff Centre from 2010 to 2011.
